Let me start by saying this: I’m not here to bash therapy. Traditional therapy has its place, and for many people, it’s life-changing. But when it comes to ADHD, the typical therapy model often falls short. Here’s why—and what works better instead.

1. Talking in Circles Without Action
Traditional therapy often involves talking about your problems for an hour each week. And if you have ADHD, guess what? We’re brilliant at that! We can analyse, overthink, and hyperfixate on our struggles for hours. But does that translate into real change? Not usually. Without actionable steps, we can find ourselves stuck in a cycle of endlessly discussing our challenges without actually moving forward.
2. Hyperfixation on the Past
There’s value in understanding our past, but ADHD brains have a tendency to hyperfixate. If we’re allowed to keep exploring childhood experiences, past traumas, or why we do what we do without a structured way to process and move forward, we risk training our brains to stay stuck there forever. The more we revisit painful memories without resolution, the deeper they embed in our neural pathways.
3. Lack of Practical Tools
ADHD isn’t just about emotions; it’s about executive function challenges—time management, impulse control, organisation, motivation. Traditional therapy doesn’t always provide the practical strategies we need to improve these areas. While awareness is important, ADHD brains need hands-on tools, structured support, and real-world strategies to break free from self-sabotaging patterns.
4. Coaching: A Solution-Focused Approach
This is where ADHD coaching makes all the difference. Instead of simply talking, we assess what’s really happening in your life and focus only on the areas that are holding you back. Coaching gives you the processing tools to understand, accept, and move forward—not just dwell on the past.
With ADHD coaching, we:
Identify what’s working and what’s not.
Develop actionable strategies to improve daily life.
Create a structure to build new habits and break old ones.
Use NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) to shift behavioural and thought patterns that no longer serve you.
5. A Safe Space for Growth and Change
Coaching provides a structured yet flexible environment where you can navigate challenges, gain clarity, and take immediate steps toward progress. It’s about rewiring the way you think and act so that you can create the life you want—without getting lost in overanalysis.
The Bottom Line
If you’ve felt stuck in therapy, endlessly talking but not seeing results, you’re not alone. ADHD coaching is designed to move you forward with real, actionable steps, helping you break free from old patterns and build a life that works for you.
